Avanton exchanged on the 1.16 hectares former SGN gasholder site in December 2019. The proposed development is in the pre-approval stages with Southwark Council. This is comprised of two residential towers of 30 and 40 storeys each and will provide nearly 700 new homes with a 60%/40% market/affordable split.
The existing site holds two decommissioned gas holders, gas holder 12 has been demolished and will where the buildings are located. Gas holder no. 13 is a listed structure and will be retained, restored, and incorporated into a large public green space.
Both sites sit within The Old Kent Road Area Action Plan (OKR AAP), which is a 282-hectare redevelopment area, which the Mayor of London has designated as an Opportunity Area in the London Plan. The focus of the AAP is to deliver housing, employment, open space and community facilities. The plan incorporates the Bakerloo line extension, which will radically improve the connectivity of Old Kent Road to the wider transport network.
